I’ve got a baker friend here on Salt Spring Island who bakes the best bread! Organic ingredients, proper starters and an Italian’s touch. That’s really all there is to say about it.
One of my favourite snacks is a slice of Tony’s bread some ice cold plain butter and a few sprinkles of flaky Maldon salt. Have you ever had Maldon salt? It’s available at specialty food stores and is on the pricey side but it’s so amazing. Go and get some and you won’t regret it. Use it to finish dishes, great on salads and as above, on a thick slice of bread with butter.
Yum…the simplest things really do bring a smile to my face!

I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who adds a few flakes of salt to my bread!
This photo is absolutely stunning
Oh gosh, I love bread and butter, especially artisan bread with quality butter! The picture makes me want some, I can almost smell that bread!
your picture is mouth watering ..
Oh yum!! So good to know about the bakery! I will be back on The Rock in a week and a half and will go check it out! Is there a place on Saltspring that carries Maldon salt? Maybe the health food store?
Mmmm!! Too bad you can’t share the smell of your bread with us. It looks delicious.
Would you believe it, in Tuscany they don’t add salt to their bread when they bake it.
It’s the most bland bread ever – pass the salt please!
